Implantology Year Course - Course Format

Training & Education

The Nobel Biocare Implantology Year Course has been set up to ensure that any general dental practitioner, from complete beginner upwards, can obtain certifiable comprehensive theoretical and practical training to a standard that exceeds the GDC's requirements, over a one year period. Post course mentoring is provided free of charge for 12 months after course completion.

In 2008 the General Dental Council released a policy statement on implantology that fundamentally changed the face of implant dentistry in the UK. This statement was issued 'in response to concerns raised with the GDC about the practice of implant dentistry by general dental practitioners' and makes it clear that without the completion of an extensive, organised and mentored training program the GDC does not consider that a GDP is suitably qualified to provide implant dentistry. Failure to prove that the necessary training has been received could result in disciplinary proceedings against a dentist by the GDC.

The course consists of 10 Study Day modules and 5 distance learning e-modules. The whole course qualifies for 70 hours of verifiable CPD

The Study Days take place one day per month and provide a complete training package by way of lectures, seminars, surgery demonstrations and one-to-one surgical teaching.

Every single Study Day features a group treatment planning seminar, as we feel that repetitive practice is the most effective way to develop the fundamental skill of safe treatment planning for implant cases.

Participants have the opportunity to place and restore implants on their own patients at our Live Surgery training venue. A log book is kept by each participant of every case observed, every case treated under supervision and every case mentored.

Participant's patients can pay greatly reduced treatment fees for treatment carried out on the course, saving the patient over a thousand pounds over normal implant treatment fees, and acting as a very strong and effective incentive to encourage the patients to take part in the course.

After completion of all of the elements of the course you will be able to safely and confidently provide straight forward implant treatment on your own patients in your own practice. You will be able to treatment plan potential implant patients and identify those cases which could prove to be more complex.

This course is the starting point of your career pathway in implant dentistry and is designed to provide a solid foundation for career long skills development.

The course commences in May and runs until March. There is no Study Day in August, owing to the high number of participants and patients who take holidays during this month.
